This year's competition will be the biggest yet, with more than 300 competitors battling it out over 24 divisions. |

| 03 May - 05 May | Riviera Run NewquayNewquay's great Mini adventure is due to start on May 3rd 2008 as thousands of cars descend on Newquay for the two day Riviera Run. Hundreds of minis arrive at Trevelgue late Saturday afternoon. The Show n Shine is held on the Sunday and is an opportunity for the Riviera Runners and members of the general public to put their vehicles on full display. The car park will be crammed with traders selling a variety of mini parts, clothes and jewelry as well as hundreds of minis on show and a live DJ. Admission tickets for the Show n Shine are available on the gate. |
| 03 May | Madeleine Balloon Release at FistralThere will be 365 balloons released this Saturday; one for every day that Madeleine McCann has been missing and the balloon release is to take place on Fistral beach, Newquay by a family who are involved with many others in the ongoing search. If anyone would like to be part of this release scheduled for 12 noon then please feel free to come along to simply watch, take part or just to remember Madeleine. | 03 May | The Big Clean-UpYoung people from across Cornwall are encouraged to take part in a beach clean along Fistral and Porth beaches and in the town centre this Saturday. The clean-up will be followed by a community BBQ at the Source Cafe, where 1,000 free burgers will be given away from 4pm to 6pm. The day will finish with a free music event at the Newquay Christian Centre from 6pm to 9pm. |

To celebrate compost week 4th to 10th May, staff at Newquay Zoo are adding in a talk and demonstration each day on how worm bins work, what goes into the compost at the zoo and facts and information to make the most of your composting at home. |

Free entry and fun for all the family, including Duck Races, Treasure Hunt, Bouncy Castle, Belly Dancing, Face Painting, Craft-making, Brass Bands and more. The theme is "Cartoon Characters" and for a small fee children and adults can enter the fancy dress competition which will be judged by the TV personality Natalie Cornah. | 04 May | Newquay Adventure RaceLusty Glaze Beach will be the base for an Adventure Race around the coast and countryside of Newquay. As well as mountain biking and trail running, competitors will have a number of check point challenges including river crossing, cliff abseiling and an assault course. |
| 08 May | Helston Flora DayThis event celebrates the arrival of Spring. The whole town is decorated with local greenery and bluebells, and elegant gentlemen and their ladies dance in and out of Churches, shops and houses. At the bottom of Coinagehall street are many stalls selling souvenirs, crafts and food, running all the way down to Coronation Park where a large fairground is set up. The celebrations last well INTO the evening with Helston's many public houses doing a roaring trade. |

Set in Fowey overlooking the picturesque Fowey estuary and neighbouring towns, the festival is one of the most popular of its kind in the UK. Throughout the festival, Fowey and neighbouring towns present star names, guided walks, talks, drama, local events and free entertainment. |

| 09 May | Musical Evening in Aid of CharityEmily Aldridge, a budding singer from Newquay, is bringing together local youngsters in a one-off performance to raise money for the charity CLIC. Eight youngsters will perform a selection of their favourite pieces from a range of musicals. The musical evening will take place at Heron Tennis Centre on Friday, May 9. Tickets cost £5 each, available from the centre and everyone is invited to attend. |

The event will also feature a masters contest involving living legends such as Roger Mansfield, Jed Stone and Chris Jones. All profits from the event will be split between Cornwall Hospice and Surfers Against Sewage. |

| 11 May | Britain's Karaoke Search 2008 Comes to NewquayThe search is on to find the King and Queen of Karaoke and in May the organisers of Britain's Karaoke are heading to Newquay's Barracuda nightclub to hold auditions for wannabe singers. They have also enlisted the help of a celebrity panel to find new undiscovered talent. This is a talent competition with a difference because the competitors will not only be in with a shot of a recording contract and a large cash prize (£7000 Each) but will also be taking part in a major fund-raising event for two UK cancer charities (Everyman Male Cancer Campaign and Ovarian Cancer Action).
