Fresh from the Dragons' Den, Ollypop Gear up for the Summer with a Brand New Range
Submitted: 17th April 2007
All fired up after a brief encounter with BBC 2's Dragons' Den, Ollypop, creators of the world's first surf training aid towel, announce plans for their new towel designs for surf mad girls and kids, available at the end of May 2007.
Improve Your Technique with Ollypop
Part of the art of surfing is to "pop" (get to your feet) quickly, in one clean movement and to make sure that your feet end up in the right place to offer you stability and control of your surfboard. The Ollypop is a beach towel designed to help surfers perfect this move, improving their technique for when they're back in the water.
It's been an interesting few months for Ollypop designer, Olly Daglish. In February, he made national headlines after his appearance on BBC 2's Dragons' Den. Although the Dragons didn't invest, the experience and publicity were well worth it and Olly is firing on all cylinders...
New range from Ollypop
New from Ollypop - The Girlpop and Grompop
Olly has been busy sourcing design ideas and colours for the new Ollypop range of surf towels which include the 'girlpop' - a funky new towel designed specifically to appeal to the growing band of surf girls, and the 'grompop' for kids.
"For the 'girlpop', I really had to get in touch with my feminine side!" says Olly. "I poured over magazines, newspapers and internet sites to come up with a refined selection of designs. I then put the vote to the girls, asking a select focus group to view my designs online and vote for their favourite. I think the winner is a great all rounder – not too girly girly, with subtle colours and a great surfy chick look to it! The 'grompop' was a similar process, and thanks to myspace and a group of local grommets (young surfers), we found a winner!"
Ollypop first launched in August 2006 and has enjoyed a fantastic response from the surfing community.
"My husband surfs and has been desperately trying to teach me, with limited success! We saw the towel and thought it was great as we can't surf all the time and it's good practice at home – saves putting tape on the floor in the lounge!" says one happy customer, Sonya from Warwick.
"It's such a simple and inexpensive training aid, all the family can use." Enthuses Ade from Bristol. "I'm sure I won't be the only one using it!!"
Olly, also an experienced surf instructor adds: "The pop-up is definitely the most important technique to master and maintain for any surfer. Without it, you simply won't be able to surf properly. The Ollypop provides instant feedback on your progress and regular practice improves muscle memory."
The 'girlpop' and 'grompop' will compliment the existing 'original' Ollypop, a unisex towel suitable for children and adults. The 'original' is available online now and comes with a free 'how to Ollypop' DVD. Ollypop surf towels are endorsed by the British Surfing Association.
