Owner Ruth Macpherson explains "we will base the evening on the popular BBC programme "Ready Steady Cook", so we are asking customers to bring a bag of ingredients for their table. Our chefs will devise a dish based on those ingredients, then create it, and hopefully the table will enjoy! Our chefs; Andi and Chaz, are really up for the competition and the challenge!"
Each person will be charged a £6 donation to take part and need to bring along a bag of ingredients which is sufficient to feed their table. There are a few ground rules, for example, the ingredients need to be things can be cooked within the chefs allotted time of 25minutes. Ruth adds "We won't be able to roast joints of beef or do overnight marinades, so we're hoping our customers will enter into the spirit of things and bring a mixed bag of exciting ingredients that test the boys, but not too much...! We will have starters and puddings on offer so that our diners can enjoy their evening out, but we can't offer to do this with more than one course or I think the evening would result in kitchen carnage!"
Ruth and her husband Dan have pledged to raise the money to enter the charity's sailing challenge which involves a cross channel yacht race from Portsmouth to St Malo and back in July. "It's 10 years since my mum died of cancer, so it's fitting that we should mark that by raising as much money as we can for this challenge. We are doing a few personal challenges as well, but I hope that this event and a charity auction that we have planned for June will have a big impact on our target" Ruth said.
The cafe is also holding another coffee morning from 9.30-11am on Friday 9th May.
The evening will be held at the cafe on Thursday May 15th. Tables (min of 4 people in party) can be booked by calling the cafe on 01637 850793, all are very welcome.
