Written by: Press Release

Submitted: 11th April 2008

Rip Curl Boardmasters Unleashed music festival returns to the iconic Watergate Bay site on August 8th and 9th 2008 for its 4th consecutive year and welcomes another impressive line-up of over 45 internationally renowned acts. The festival site has grown substantially since its creation in 2004 with headliners Razorlight and James Blunt playing to an intimate sell-out crowd of just 5,000 people. Since then, the festival has developed significantly with the addition of two further stages; a Cornish based organic catering area, surf movie lounge, surf inspired art fair and board shaping demonstrations from local based shapers.
Rip Curl Boardmasters 2008

Event organiser, Andrew Topham, accredits the festivals success stating, "we are keen to move away from the atmosphere of a big gig, we want to give people an all-day festival experience at a reasonable price, this year we will have 45 plus major bands and artists playing across three stages for a weekend ticket price of only £54.99. This is a great opportunity to see some big name acts that don't normally make it down to Cornwall against a stunning backdrop of over 15 miles of Cornish coastline."

Rounding off a strong music line-up, RCB Unleashed will also play host to an impressive action sports area where audiences can take-in breath taking displays from the best athletes in wakeboarding, FMX, skate and mountain biking.

Tickets are priced £29.99/day and £54.99/weekend. Tickets are available from: www.ripcurlboardmasters.com and locally at Hall for Cornwall, Truro 01872 262466.

GROOVE ARMADA (HEADLINER)

The first headliner to be announced for 2008, Groove Armada are famous for some of the biggest dance anthems of our times they will most definitely bring on the party spirit to the festival with their revved up live show. With a massive back catalogue and a career spanning Best of out at the moment you can expect a greatest hits set consisting of some of the biggest, towering songs of our times such as I See you Baby, Superstylin' and At The River, the songs that made Groove Armada the household name that they have become.

AUDIO BULLYS

From debut release "Hooligan House' (2003) through to the huge hit of 2005 'Shot You Down' which features that sample of Nancy Sinatra's Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' to their 2006 offering 'Generatio'n, Simon Franks and Tom Dinsdale (collectively known as Audio Bullys) have undoubtedly helped to reignite a fading state of British dance music. Alongside Basement Jaxx, Stanton Warriors and The Streets, their music has created another soundtrack to urban life in London with their expertly crafted beats, bass, breakdowns and street-smart lyrics. With support from Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Erick Morillo and collaborations with British MC Roots Manuva and the legendary Suggs of Madness, their place in the Hall of Fame of British music is indisputable.

The band have been busy working on their new album "Sunday Night Fever" which is due for release in September. First single "Gimme That Punk" due for release in May, has already had an exclusive world wide play from Pete Tong and was Zane Lowes Hottest Record of the Week. The video for the single is being produced by Don Letts and will be shot this week.

Already touring Europe with their new full live band set up, we can expect an awesome stage show from the Bully's.

MORCHEEBA

The multi-million selling darlings of downtempo, Morcheeba nestle in most people's record collection with at least one of their soul and country-inflected 'sampladelic' mood music albums. A 'group' only in the loosest sense of the word they have coined a new genre for themselves of 'trip hop' whilst collaborating with such a variety of singers and musicians that their status as an eclectic and open-minded collective is unsurpassed.

Now back with a sixth album "Dive Deep", the brothers Paul and Ross Godfrey have taken this a step further, contacting most of the vocalists featured on their latest offering via MySpace. Co-writing with most of the guests, the album has a truly organic yet comforting feel, and the brothers credit it with restoring their faith in music after a difficult period:

"For me this album is already a success," says Paul. "When I was listening to it come together I listened with my whole body. I could feel it bubble up from my calves through my gut and my chest and burst into ideas and moods that we could channel."

NATTY

An artist who lists influences as diverse as Lee Perry, Roots Manuva, The Velvet Underground, Miles Davis and The Streets, Natty began his musical career doing work experience in a sound studio. Picking up his guitar again and starting to write his own material, Natty was encouraged to continue by producer Craid Dodds, who then went on to produce Natty's debut album which is due for release later in the year.

Armed with a debut single 'Cold Town' due out 5th May, a nickname that has stuck since childhood, when he left his mum's copy of Marley's 1974 album 'Natty Dread' on a sunny windowsill and warped it, increasingly excited industry rumblings to Radio 1 plays, an appearance on Later With Jools Holland (April 08th) and a fast building fan base, the North London artist is a name to watch this summer.

Sam Isaac has been hotly tipped as one of the most promising talents and a definite 'one to watch' of 2008.

With continued support from the likes of Radio 1 this year has already proved to be fantastic year for Sam whose profile continues to grow. NME's review of last single 'Fire Fire' was described as 'big, brash and possibly the biggest tune we've heard so far in 2008.'

Those that have witnessed some of Sam's Cornish performances so far will know that the buzz is truely deserved and that he is not to be missed. Sam will be making two appearances at the festival this year, both mainstage and 2nd stage... so you have doubled your chances of catching him!

NO HALF MEASURES STAGE – SATURDAY 09TH AUGUST

GALLOWS

Fronted by Frank Carter, a man known for branding himself on stage and not necessarily the type of guy you'd take home for tea, Gallows have risen meteorically through the ranks of a thousand other hardcore punk rock bands in recent times. With an unlikely collaboration with Lethal Bizzle on track 'Staring At The Rude Bois' and the 2007 NME newcomers award, Gallows appearances at last years Download, Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos festivals have cemented their reputation as a force to be reckoned with!

GHOST OF A THOUSAND

Hardcore 5 piece Ghost of a Thousand (currently on tour with Reuben) have previously appeared with Blood Red Shoes, Poison The Well, Pitchshifter, Gallows and Alexisonfire amongst others. Formed in 2004 in Brighton, the band count themselves to be the luckiest people in the world to be doing what they do, and are to appear at The Great Escape this year (Britain's answer to South By Southwest SXSW).

JOHNNY TRUANT

Video of the week in Kerrang Magazine, appearances at Download and an invite to record a live session at Maida Vale courtesy of Radio 1, plus plaudits from fans, peers and critics alike, as well as support slots with Alexisonfire, SikTh, Raging Speedhorn and Killswitch Engage are clues to the position held by Brighton metal 5-piece Johnny Truant.

The band have a punishing tour schedule ahead of them this summer and a new album 'No Tears For The Creatures' due for release some time this Spring.

IN CASE OF FIRE

The latest signing to the Raw Management stable of Craig Jennings (also home to Funeral for a Friend, Fightstar, Bullet for My Valentine and Gallows), In Case of Fire are attracting bucket loads of attention with their power house sound. An Irish trio, parallels have already been drawn with Muse, a credit to the epic and unbounded quality of their live performance.

"Stadium-sized rock; combining the theatrical pomp of Muse with the raw power of vintage Therapy... Call it melodic metal, call it a Queens of The Stone Age rip-off... either way, these noisy young Irishmen are going to detonate over 2008 like an H-bomb." Planet Sound, CH4

SLAVES TO GRAVITY

London four-piece Slaves To Gravity combine the down-tuned, melodic grunge stylings of Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden.

Recent visitors to this year's SXSW in Texas where they showcased their monstrous riffs, huge grooving rhythms and battle-cry melodies to great effect and with frontman Tommy Gleeson already looking and sounding every inch like a rock god, the band are set to make a breakthrough in 2008.

HEXES

Tipped as one of the bands to watch in 2008 in December's Rock Sound and new band for Radio 1 Rock Show host 'Daniel P Carter' (formally of 'A' fame!). Hexes (who are currently on tour with Cancer Bats and Johnny Truant) are heavyweight newcomers from Southend.
