Scarlet Macaws are an endangered species due to hunting and habitat loss. The breeding pair at Newquay Zoo are part of a European Endangered Species Programme. They originate from South and Central America where they spend most of their time eating in the uppermost layers of the forest canopy. They feed on a variety soft fruits such as figs and also some nuts.
