The Pamela Darlington School of Dance was started in 1982 with 9 pupils, the 1st ever Showtime being performed in 1984. Since then the school has produced Showtime every 2 to 3 years. This year the school has over 100 pupils taking part in Showtime, ranging from the age of 3 to 18.

The School teaches Classical ballet, Tap and Modern, these all come under the auspices of the British Ballet Organisation, a traditional and much respected governing body. In 2003 Miss Pamela felt that the school should branch out and incorporate Musical Theatre Classes, giving pupils the opportunity to experience other forms of theatre - like drama and singing. This has proved to be very popular. The school is proud to boast that some of their past pupils are currently studying at the Doreen Bird Dance College, Elmhurst Ballet School, Laine Theatre Arts and the Royal Academy of Dance.

Showtime is the "highlight" of the School, it allows the children to do what every dancer dreams of - PERFORMING! They are able to bring together everything that they have learnt and produce a skilled and confident dance routine. The teachers and parents also work hard to ensure that the children have a variety of wonderful costumes to enhance the overall performance.

Showtime is very important to the School for the opportunities it gives to the pupils and for the sheer joy that performing brings, but it also has another very important element, Showtime raises funds for charity. Showtime 2005 raised over £2500 for CLIC Sargent, Cancer Research UK and the Hall for Cornwall Theatre Fund combined. Showtime 2008 will be raising funds for the same charities however we hope to increase the amount that we raise. The majority of the costs of producing Showtime are covered by the parents and teachers, the cost of the Hall for Cornwall is taken from the ticket sales and the profit on ticket sales is the amount raised for the chosen charities. The aim of the school this year is to fill as many seats as possible in the theatre by making more people aware of this wonderful show.

The words of a local radio broadcaster the morning after Showtime 2005 spring to mind "if you weren't at the Hall For Cornwall last night YOU MISSED A REAL TREAT!"

Don't be the one to miss out this year, so make sure you buy your tickets!!
