Description

St Newlyn East School is a small, purpose-built primary school, which is situated on the edge of St Newlyn East village, five miles to the south of Newquay. It serves the village of St Newlyn East and its surroundings rural community and has 130 pupils on roll, aged 4-11. Pupils of statutory school age are accommodated in four mixed age group classes. Children aged four attend on a part-time basis and are based in a small early years unit.

The school actively encourages its pupils to respect themselves, each other, their school and the community. It values excellence in teachers, staff and children and strives to improve and provide a rich environment for all who are involved with the school. The school is family orientated, values links with the wider community and encourages parents to be involved with learning in a wide variety of situations. The school aims to be central to the local community and endorses conservation, competition and co-operation.

The school runs the Cool Kids Club which is available for all children in the area, whether resident or visiting, between 4 years (attending school nursery class) and up to 11 years. Children are encouraged to take part in a number of different carefully supervised activities, from creative to sports. During school holidays the club also go on outings, to the zoo for example and have workshops where specially trained staff come into the school for the day.
