For the first time in many years, Father Christmas will be arriving in Newquay by train! Tickity-boo can reveal that while his reindeers limber up for the big night ahead of them on Christmas Eve, Santa will let the train take the strain when he comes to town on the Saturday 9th December.

Santa Arrives in Newquay by Train

Children will recieve a Christmas gift from Santa.

The Mayor, Councillor John Rainbow, and a large group of children will be at Newquay Railway Station to greet Santa. A spokes-elf for Father Christmas told us, " Our boss is very conscious of the need to save fuel and energy costs, so he will be travelling by a scheduled service rather than a special train, and it will arrive at 10.15am. Please ask everyone to come and welcome him". He will then set up his workshop and Grotto at Trenance where he hopes parents and children will visit him and receive a pre-Christmas gift.

Santa Chooses Trenance Cottages as his Workshop

It is considered a big honour for Newquay that Santa has chosen our town to launch his 2006 Christmas operation. Indeed, the fact that he will be setting up his workshop in our very own Trenance Cottages (by kind permission of the Friends of Trenance Cottages and Restormel Borough Council) is seen by some in the tourist industry as the sort of publicity that Newquay just couldn't afford to buy. Former Tourist Officer Paul Wright said, "At last an International figure has recognised the out-of-season benefits of a short break in Cornwall's foremost resort. It's got to be great news".

Friends spokesman Ted O'Dell has a different vision: "A cottage industry like Father Christmas's workshop could be the way ahead for Trenance Cottages after they've been restored".

Santa's Timetable

The National Elf Service has issued this timetable for the weekend:

Saturday 9th - 10.15am: Father Christmas arrives at Newquay Railway Station, then makes his way by Lions Club sleigh to Trenance Cottages.

Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th - (11am - 4pm): Santa's Workshop and Grotto open - COME AND VISIT THE MAGICAL GROTTO WHERE SNOW IS GUARANTEED AND EVERY CHILD FROM 2 YEARS to 11 GETS A PRESENT. There is a charge of £1.50 per child to support the work of the Friends of Trenance Cottages. THERE WILL ALSO BE FACE-PAINTING AVAILABLE - COURTESY OF THE SNOW QUEEN AND HER ATTENDANTS.

After the Grotto closes on Sunday afternoon, the Mayor will be present at the first ever Carol Sing-along outside the cottages. Father Christmas will join in too, before dashing back to Lapland to continue his work. It will be presented by Chris Blount and accompanied by members of Newquay Band. Schoolchildren will sing and John Trembath will render a couple of seasonal poems.

THE NEAREST CAR PARK IS AT THE HERON TENNIS CENTRE AND IT'S FREE ALL WINTER.

Don't forget, you can post a letter to Santa via the special postbox which is now set up on the wall of the cottages at Trenance.

ORGANISED BY THE FRIENDS OF TRENANCE COTTAGES - working for community and heritage.
